Psychologist
Psychologists study the human mind to help people understand their behavior patterns and if needed change them. Counselling or clinical psychologists will diagnose and treat individuals exhibiting behavioral, mental and emotional disorders using various techniques. A common techniques applied is the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
They also make assessments and recommendations for appropriate treatments, run case managements and administrative tasks, review relevant literature and elaborate complex behavioral health issues. They will refer patients to specialist therapists and doctors on a case basis.
School psychologists will examine student performances and assess student strengths, they will consult with teachers and parents and make recommendations for appropriate interventions for performance improvement. They will provide behavioral benchmarks and guide the students on the same, they will provide psychological support to the students as the students need them. They will counsel students with learning challenges and disorders, they will give group counselling sessions for the students, teachers and parents.
In a work environment, a psychologist will oversee and manage innovative research projects which will increase staff productivity, work alongside human resource in seeking chances of improving work efficiency. They will establish strong client relationships to provide practical client solutions.
Skills that psychologists need are; communication skills, interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, trustworthiness, critical thinking and analytical thinking skills. Psychologists work in schools, hospitals, companies, government agencies, non-governmental agencies and as consultants.
